On January 16th at 12:30am in Camberwell, a man and woman in a car were stopped by police who noticed the smell of cannabis from the vehicle. As the man left the vehicle he took a gun from his pocket and aimed it at an officer, however Police tasered the 31-year-old.
This incident happened in the early hours of the morning before a planned drugs raid on sixteen Southwark addresses which resulted in the arrest of eleven men and one woman.
The addresses raided were suspected of connection to the current surge in violent street crime.
Ex-drug dealer Quince agreed with this idea, saying:
There’s definitely a link between violent crime and drugs because it involves territory… At lower level you might have twenty dealers in one area competing against eachother.
Do you think drug raids will have a big enough impact on the more bigger issue of violent crimes? We want to hear from you.
